Eucalyptus Tetraptera . Square-Fruited Mallee.
Of particular significance is this shrubs attractive red flowers and fruits or buds. The buds are square, downward pointing and bright red. The flowers re seen in Spring and Summer and are red or pink. This is a very unusual Eucalypt shrub to 3 metres high that usually has a straggly appearance. It has very large leaves that are glossy and leathery. The adult leaves can grow to 25cm long. It prefers fairly dry conditions and a well-drained soil. This small Eucalypt is a good plant for containers and can even be brought inside. It’s frost hardy to about -7oC and responds well to pruning. Its also been grown as a bonsai.
